Here come the holidays!!!

It's definitely been a while! I apologize for not posting much the last few months, its been pretty hectic over here and there hasn't been much time for baking, blogging, or cooking in general! But I figured since the holidays are quickly approaching it would be a good time to share some fun holiday ideas! I LOOOVVVEEEE the holidays!! We are going to a Halloween party tonight and so I made some fun festive brownies! The are pretty much the same as the last ones I blogged about but I added some Halloween fun!

Birthday Time!

My mom's birthday was on August 4th (I know this post is a little overdue!) and I decided to make her a birthday cake on her birthday! I have definitely been watching too much Staten Island Cakes (LOVE Vinny!!) and too much Cake Boss, so I got inspired and decided to attempt to make big 2 tier cake covered in fondant and was determined that it would match up with the picture in my head....well we all know how it goes when we try to match pictures in our head...haha...but it turned out pretty good considering it was my first attempt to make something like this, and I have a list of things to make it even better next time! The cake was Red Velvet with Cream Cheese filling, and buttercream icing covered in fondant! Here is it....
all the needed supplies!

plus pans and cut outs!

Follow cake mix instructions

Put in pan and bake!

flip cooled cake onto plate

lather top side with cream cheese frosting

yummy!

make second cake (same size)

flip on top

looking pretty yummy!

mix butter cream icing

cover cake with icing

soo yummy!

Fondant!

set up area to roll out fondant

roll it out! This was my first time using fondant and it definitely should have been thinner!

cover cake with fondant

make 2 smaller cakes...

top one with cream cheese frosting

top with second small cake

cover small cake with fondant and place on top of big cake...

I used different color fondant for decorating

finished product! It was a bit uneven, but for a first attempt and having no idea what I was doing it wasn't too bad!

Happy Birthday with a hula girl on top!

Happy Birthday Mom!
